“Protecting the Lake and Dam”
State of the Lake Association December 19, 2022
Dear Lake Association Member,
Lake Carole Lake Owners Association, Inc. remains a financially solvent corporation. The trustee has met all of the financial, legal, maintenance and corporate responsibilities as provided in our Lake Agreement, our Bylaws and State law.
All members are encouraged to visit the Association website at www.cedarlakesassociations.com There you will find all information pertaining to the Association; including Articles of
Incorporation, Lake Agreement, Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of the Association.
The single most important responsibility of the Association is the maintenance of the dam to facilitate inspections by DHEC. This involves cutting and maintaining the surfaces of the dam. Speedy Landscaping has done this for us since DHEC gave the dam a poor grade years ago. This poor grade was given because the dam was overgrown on the Western side and could not be safely inspected. Since that time the landscaper has kept the dam in great shape by cutting the brambles and grass three to four times a year.
The known threats to the stability of the lake are dam erosion, the beaver population, clogging of the feeder stream, algae blooms, and a possible declining fish population. The Association does not pay professionals to assess these conditions and relies on the observations of our Members to report issues as they see them. Credit and my thanks must be given to Mr. Stephen Howell who has volunteered his knowledge of the dam and his vigilance of conditions on the lake. Besides being a great neighbor, Mr. Howell has also helped to manage the beaver population, which cannot be trapped and relocated. He also advises the Trustee on restocking the lake. Mr. Howell has kindly offered to give us all an introduction to the passive workings of the dam, which is a machine, not just a mound of dirt.
My thanks to all of our Lake Association Members who not only contribute to the preservation of the lake and dam, but also to the peaceful and neighborly atmosphere that we all enjoy.
Sincerely,
Alvan Turner, Trustee
